Brief History: Since she was the youngest child, her sister Mabel began catching Pokemon way before she did, but her Buneary was caught by her mother, who died when Ruth was two. When she turned ten, which is when a child is to receive their first Pokemon, Ruth was given the Buneary that her mother had kept away for her. Her Swirlix was the only Pokemon she caught for herself, when she was eleven years old and her father died, but not before he gave her a Tyrogue as a protection gift, just like Mabel had received a Pokemon to protect her. Mabel thought it would be a good idea to move to Eden Island for a better life, since their parents were dead and Ruth was still young, so that's what they did. Her Teddiursa was caught by Mabel on the way to Eden Island, and instead of keeping it, Ruth could have it as a gift of her own.
