| Your first glimpse of the island from out to sea is billowing smoke that stains the sky black. Mt. Carnation rises out as an imposing black tower, its slopes mostly barren and gray, with frequent showers of ash over the island and its nearby waters. There are occasional 'mini-eruptions' where magma will pour down the slopes, and there's a superstition that it warns of terrible things to come. | |
